Penn College's baseball team split a United East Conference doubleheader against St. Mary's in St. Mary's City, Maryland. The Wildcats won the first game 8-3 but lost the second 8-0. Their conference record now stands at 5-7, with an overall record of 16-16. The Seahawks are at 4-8 in conference play and 7-15 overall.
In the first game, the Wildcats broke a scoreless tie by scoring two runs in the third inning. The Seahawks tied it up in the fifth inning, but Penn College responded with three more runs in the sixth inning thanks to hits from Quinn Hanafin, Adam Aldenderfer, and Matt Munoz. Jaydon Goebel and Dallas Griess each hit solo home runs, while Shawn Townsend contributed an RBI double in the seventh inning.
Goebel had a strong performance going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Griess drove in three runs and scored once himself, while Munoz went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Sam Staib secured his third win of the season by pitching 1.2 innings of relief, striking out two batters and allowing one hit.
In contrast, Penn College struggled offensively in the second game, managing only five hits as they fell to an 8-0 defeat.
The Wildcats will next travel to Mount Aloysius for a nonconference game on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.
