State Representative Jamie Flick and State Senator Gene Yaw have announced nearly $3.8 million in state funding allocated for projects in Lycoming and Union Counties. This decision was made at the Commonwealth Financing Authority meeting held in Harrisburg.
"The awards announced today will be incredibly impactful for our communities by funding important economic development, infrastructure, public safety, recreation and school improvement projects," said Yaw. He emphasized the urgent need for these improvements due to outdated infrastructure. "I’m thankful to Rep. Flick for working with me to secure this funding."
Flick added, "This funding is critical as it allows us to share the benefits with as many people as possible, supporting infrastructure-related projects that help businesses, community members and visitors alike stay safe and strong." He also highlighted the significance of securing funds for upgrades to the South Williamsport Area School District building.
The Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program provided funds for several projects:
In Lycoming County:
- Montgomery Water Authority received $996,000 for water main replacements.
- Williamsport Municipal Water Authority was granted $963,251 for a similar project.
- Lycoming County was allocated $346,511 for forensic facility equipment purchases.
- Williamsport City Redevelopment Authority obtained $311,045 for construction equipment.
In Union County:
- White Deer Township received $173,205 for community park repairs and ADA upgrades.
Michael Miller from the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority expressed gratitude: "The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) is grateful for this LSA award to assist with water main replacements in the First St. corridor." He appreciated the leadership of Sen. Yaw and Rep. Flick.
Additionally, South Williamsport Area School District secured $1 million through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG) aimed at upgrading its high school's HVAC system and enhancing ADA accessibility among other improvements.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act supports these initiatives by distributing gaming revenues through the CFA to benefit public interest projects within Pennsylvania. The CFA evaluates applications based on cost-effectiveness and strategic importance.
