Mussina leads Penn College golf team in George Cangero Invitational

Penn College participated in the George Cangero Invitational at Bethpage State Park Blue Golf Course over the weekend, finishing tied for seventh among 11 teams. Peyton Mussina led the team with a score of 4-under-par 140, tying for third place among 61 golfers.

On Saturday, Mussina achieved five birdies on the par-72, 6,693-yard course and was tied for fifth with three others, trailing the tournament leaders by two strokes. Gunner Redmond shot a 76 to tie for 33rd place, Will Orwig shot a 78 to tie for 41st place, Brady Handy shot a 79 to tie for 44th place, and Logan Gawlinski shot an 85 to tie for 57th place. The Wildcats' total score was 303, placing them eighth in the field.

Host Farmingdale State and NYU shared the lead on Saturday with scores of 284. They were followed by Luther at 287 and Gettysburg at 288. Adelphi scored a total of 290 while Farmingdale State "B" and SUNY Delhi both scored a total of 299.

Oscar Uribe from NYU and CJ Merritt from Farmingdale State led individually with scores of 68 each.

On Sunday, Mussina closed his round with five birdies and six pars over his last eleven holes to finish with another score of seventy. His overall total was four shots behind the winners. Brady Handy scored a seventy-four to tie for thirty-seventh place; Gunner Redmond scored seventy-eight to tie for fortieth; Will Orwig also scored seventy-eight to tie for forty-fifth; Logan Gawlinski finished with seventy-nine to tie for fifty-third.

Three teams shared the title after Adelphi recorded a score of two hundred seventy-nine—five hundred sixty-nine along with Gettysburg's two hundred eighty-one—five hundred sixty-nine and Luther's two hundred eighty-two—five hundred sixty-nine. Following these were Farmingdale State at two hundred ninety—five hundred seventy-four and NYU at two hundred ninety-one—five hundred seventy-five.

CJ Merritt recorded his second consecutive sixty-eight resulting in an overall one thirty-six total alongside Daniel Suter from Gettysburg who had rounds of seventy-one-sixty-five—one thirty-six leading individually.

Penn College will resume its season in spring.
