The University of Pennsylvania's men's and women's cross country teams are preparing to compete at the Princeton Fall Classic this Friday. The event will take place at Princeton's Meadows Campus, with the women's 6k race starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 11:15 a.m.
This competition offers the Quakers an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the course before returning on November 2 for the Ivy Heptagonal Championships.
In their previous outing, senior Dylan Throop led Penn in the men's gold 8k race at the Paul Short Run, finishing fourth with a time of 23:31.7. Throop has been recognized as an Ivy Men's Athlete of the Week and was notable for being the only Ivy League athlete to finish in the top five in Lehigh's gold races.
Senior Luke Johnson also performed well, completing his race in 24:19.6. On the women's side, Miranda Schriver recorded a season-best time of 21:02.5 in her event, closely followed by freshman Olivia Williams who finished in 21:05.2.
Anastasia Russell and Sarah Fischer placed within the top 15 in their respective women's open 6k race, finishing in 12th and 13th positions respectively. In the men's open 8k race, freshman Joseph Ruiz led Penn's pack with a time of 25:06.3, placing him in 31st position.
The Quakers' roster for Friday includes Nick Carpenter, Esfan Daya, Sahil Dodda, Kofi Fordjour, Dennis Fortuna, Liam Going, Luke Johnson, George Keen, Edwin Klanke, Diego Mendez Colon, Shane Murphy, Joseph Ruiz, Silas Ruth, Will Shaughnessy, and Dylan Throop for the men; and Kyra Compton, L'Mio Edwards, Sarah Fischer, Chloe Hassman, Bronwyn Patterson, Katie Pou, Anastasia Russell, Miranda Schriver, Anna Weirich, Olivia Williams and Nora Wollen for the women.
The event will feature teams from various universities including Boston College and Boston University among others.
