Penn College concluded its season as the runner-up in the United East Men's Lacrosse Championship after a 23-4 defeat against St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats ended their season with a 10-9 overall record, marking the second time they have achieved conference runner-up status in their four-year history, matching the accomplishment of the 2021 team.
In the match, St. Mary's took an early lead with two goals before Harrison Schlachta assisted AJ Dotson for Penn College's first goal at 8:57 in the first quarter. Will Ehret then assisted Brendan Kuczma for another goal at 4:21, bringing Penn College to two goals by the end of the first quarter.
St. Mary's dominated with a 17-goal streak, including ten goals in the second quarter alone, further extending their lead with six more goals in the third and three in the fourth quarters. The Wildcats managed to score one goal each in both the third and fourth quarters.
Dotson led Penn College with two goals while Kuczma and Aidan McFalls each added one goal. Alex Hammond made nine saves and Dax Shallis contributed eight saves during the game. Jayden Hazzard collected five ground balls for his team.
St. Mary's controlled 18 out of 31 faceoffs and had fewer turnovers than Penn College, winning that battle 24-8. Key players for St. Mary's included Nate Hochrein with five goals, Joshua Martel with four goals, and Declan Horton who scored three times.
With this loss, Penn College's lacrosse season has come to an end.
