Austin Thompson Volunteer Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach | Penn College Wildcats
Penn College secured a victory against Alvernia with an 11-8 win in nonconference men's lacrosse on Saturday. This result improved the Wildcats' record to 4-5, while the Golden Wolves fell to 3-4.
In the first quarter, both teams exchanged goals and ended tied at 3-3. AJ Dotson scored for Penn College just seven seconds into the game, followed by three consecutive goals from Alvernia. Dotson then broke Alvernia's streak, and Gage McClune equalized the score before the quarter ended.
The second quarter saw a strong performance from Penn College, who scored five goals. Harrison Schlachta contributed two goals, while Aidan McFalls added another at the 5:57 mark to put Penn College ahead at 6-4. Dotson and Will Ehret closed out the half with additional goals, bringing their lead to 8-5.
Jake Small, McFalls, and Ehret secured final points for Penn College in the third quarter.
Dotson achieved his third hat-trick of the season and provided an assist for a total of four points. Small also accumulated four points with one goal and three assists. McFalls, Schlachta, and Ehret each scored twice.
Defensively, Austin Callahan caused two turnovers while Small collected four ground balls. Alex Hammond made ten saves during his second win of the year.
For Alvernia, Colin McFadyen led with three goals and an assist.
Next Saturday, Penn College will celebrate Senior Day before facing United East opponent Cairn at 1 p.m.
