The United East Conference has recognized Connor Gentile, a defenseman for the Penn College men's lacrosse team, as the Defensive Player of the Week. This marks Gentile's first weekly accolade in his collegiate career. He joins Alex Hammond as one of the defensive players honored this season.
Gentile, a freshman with the Wildcats, contributed to a strong defensive performance that limited opponents to just eight goals across two games against Marywood and Rosemont. In a 10-4 victory over Marywood's Pacers on Wednesday, Gentile recorded a season-high three ground balls and caused one turnover. He continued his effective play on Saturday in an 18-4 win against Rosemont's Ravens by adding another ground ball and causing another turnover. Throughout his rookie season, Gentile has been credited with six caused turnovers and nine ground balls.
