Penn College experienced its first conference loss in an 18-3 defeat against St. Mary's during a United East men's lacrosse game on Saturday. The Wildcats now hold a 2-1 record in the United East and are 7-8 overall, while the Seahawks improved to 4-0 in the conference and 10-3 overall.
The game began with St. Mary's taking a quick lead just one minute into play. Penn College responded when Aidan McFalls assisted Jesse Weick for an equalizing goal with 8:29 remaining in the first quarter. However, St. Mary's then scored nine consecutive goals, establishing a 10-1 lead by halftime.
In the second half, St. Mary's continued their scoring streak with five more goals before McFalls connected with Harrison Schlachta early in the fourth quarter. Brendan Kuczma added another goal from an Austin Callahan pass with 6:22 left, bringing the score to 16-3.
Statistically, Penn College won 15 of 24 faceoffs and successfully cleared on 13 of their 16 attempts. Dax Shallis made ten saves for the Wildcats.
Penn College is scheduled to return to action next Saturday at Bryn Athyn at 1 p.m.
