Penn College sophomore goalie Alex Hammond has been recognized as the United East Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday.

Hammond's performance marked a significant achievement as he secured the first weekly award from the conference this season. This honor is also notable as it is the first defensive weekly accolade since James Cella received it on March 6, 2023.

Throughout two games, Hammond achieved a total of 21 saves while allowing only nine goals. His efforts contributed to the Wildcats' victories over Juniata and Alvernia, with scores of 16-6 and 11-8, respectively. During Wednesday's game against Juniata Eagles, Hammond made 11 saves and allowed just one goal in half an hour of play, resulting in a .917 save percentage. He continued his strong performance against Alvernia Golden Wolves on Saturday with ten saves and a .556 save percentage over the full duration of the match.
