Penn College juniors Gavin Baer and Peyton Mussina have been recognized as 2023-24 Cobalt Golf Division III All-America Scholars. This announcement was made by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday, marking a first for the program.
To qualify for this nomination, athletes must be in their sophomore, junior, or senior years both academically and athletically within NCAA Division III. They must participate in at least half of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average below 79.0, and hold a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. Additionally, they are required to demonstrate high moral character and remain in good standing with their college or university.
This year, 208 athletes from 81 schools received Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
Baer played 21 rounds last season with an average score of 78.3, contributing to Penn College's repeat victory as United East champions. He secured eighth place at the conference championship and was named to the second team all-conference.
Mussina averaged 72.9 over 23 rounds, achieving four tournament victories and finishing in 17th place at the NCAA Division III Championship. As the reigning United East Golfer of the Year, Mussina has earned consecutive United East first team honors and was selected for the PING/GCAA All-Region team.
