Penn College's Peyton Mussina concluded his participation in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship with a score of 286, securing a tie for 17th place. The competition took place over four days at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
Mussina's final round began with three birdies, five pars, and one bogey, resulting in a 2-under 34 on the front nine of the par-72 course. At one point in fourth place with five holes remaining, he finished with a score of 40 on the back nine.
Throughout the tournament, Mussina maintained an average score of 4.50 (-8) on par-5 holes, ranking him tied for 12th best among competitors. He also averaged scores of 3.52 on par-3s and 4.05 on par-4s. Over the course of the championship, he achieved 17 birdies and made 43 pars.
The individual title was claimed by Mike O'Sullivan from Oglethorpe University with a total score of 276. Cooper Hrabak from Methodist University followed closely with a score of 277, while Griffin Pohl from Illinois Wesleyan and Brian Xu from Carnegie-Mellon shared third place at 280 out of a field comprising 96 players.
Methodist University emerged victorious in the team competition with a cumulative score of 1,131, narrowly defeating second-place Carnegie-Mellon by just one stroke.
Penn College will resume its golf season in the fall.
