Penn College senior Peyton Mussina achieved a notable performance at the Alvernia University Fall Invitational Battle held at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Mussina recorded four birdies on Tuesday to shoot an opening-round 69, maintaining his form with a 73 on Wednesday to achieve a total of 142 and medal in the event among 52 competitors.
The Wildcats' team finished sixth out of eleven teams, with only three strokes separating them from the fourth and fifth positions. On Tuesday, Mussina's 3-under-par round gave him a one-stroke lead over Michael Thomas from Christopher Newport University. Gunner Redmond of Penn College stood third after scoring 73 on the 6,687-yard course. Other contributors included Brady Handy with an 84, Will Orwig with an 86, and Matt Capoferri who shot a 91.
In terms of team standings on Tuesday, Christopher Newport led with a score of 297 followed by Albright at 302 and Penn College at 312. The following day saw Mussina secure victory by four strokes over CNU's Thomas for the individual title. Redmond ended tied for 24th place after shooting a total of 163. Orwig scored an overall of 169 to tie for the 36th spot; Handy completed his rounds with a score totaling to174 finishing in position number forty-six; Capoferri concluded his play ranked fiftieth having carded an aggregate score reaching one-hundred seventy-eight points.
On Wednesday’s leaderboard: CNU clinched first place in team competition ending up overall scores tallying six-hundred three while Albright was second finishing their tournament effort earning six-hundred twenty-two marks altogether whilst Roanoke “B” managed landing third-place standing accumulating grand sum amount equaling exactly six-hundred thirty-eight units.
Penn College is set to wrap up its fall season this coming weekend during participation within George Cangero Invitational occurring at Bethpage State Park Blue Golf Course.
