Penn College senior Peyton Mussina posted a two-day 9-under-par 135 total and led from wire-to-wire, winning by 11 strokes and taking medalist honors at the Mountain Valley Classic. In team competition, the Wildcats finished sixth out of 20.
In Friday's first round played on the par 72, 6,852-yard Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Mussina was bogey-free in shooting a 68 and opening a four-stroke lead. On the par 72, 6,748-yard Summit Country Club at Cresson on Saturday, Mussina recorded seven more birdies en route to a 67 that tied his collegiate career low as he medaled for his seventh time.
Also for Penn College, Will Orwig had rounds of 75-79—154 and tied for 21st; Matthew Capoferri shot 78-82—160 and tied for 43rd; Gunner Redmond shot 86-79—165 and tied for 62nd; and Jordan Lestochi shot 86-82—168 and tied for 75th in a field of 109.
Farmingdale State took team honors after rounds of 304-297—601 and was followed by Heidelberg and Mount Aloysius at 608, Mount Union at 610, Swarthmore at 612, Penn College at 614, Penn State Altoona at 617, Pitt-Greensburg at 622, Westminster at 624 and Juniata "B" at 635 to round out the top ten.
Penn College competes next at the Albright College Fall Invitational at Olde Homestead Golf Club on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
