On May 17, Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Union) will host a highway dedication in honor of Sgt. Edward L. Shannon at Mazeppa Union Church, located at 3200 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg.

The stretch of Johnson Mill Road (State Route 1001), from the bridge over Buffalo Creek (Bridge Key 33467) to the intersection of Col. John Kelly Road (State Route 1002) in Buffalo Township, will henceforth be known as the Sgt. Edward L. Shannon Highway.

Sgt. Shannon enlisted in the Army in 1914 and first served in combat during the Mexican Border War in 1917. Following his success at the southern border, he was deployed to Europe in May of 1918 to fight against the Central Powers in World War I. Tragically, on Sept. 26, 1918, Shannon lost his life after encountering hostile action in the Argonne Forest of France.

“Sgt. Shannon’s sacrifices for our nation are beyond recognition,” said Borowicz. “I am privileged to be able to host this highway dedication to honor him.”

The public is invited to join Rep. Borowicz and others on May 17 to pay tribute to Sgt. Shannon's service and sacrifice.
