State Senator Eugene Yaw | Pennsylvania
State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) expressed his concerns about the new federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-imposed power plant emission rules in a statement released recently. Sen. Yaw highlighted the potential negative impacts of these regulations on Pennsylvania's electric grid, energy jobs, and economic development goals.
Sen. Yaw criticized the Biden Clean Power Plan 2.0, stating that it would have severe consequences for Pennsylvania, leading to the closure of natural gas and coal plants and causing significant job losses. He emphasized the adverse effects on the state's power grid, particularly impacting electric ratepayers, families, and communities.
In his statement, Sen. Yaw referenced warnings from PJM, the organization managing the mid-Atlantic power grid, about potential energy rationing and rolling blackouts in Pennsylvania due to the premature closure of reliable thermal generation. He called on Pennsylvania's Congressional Delegation to oppose the Clean Power Plan and urged the Shapiro Administration to prioritize the interests of Pennsylvania workers, families, and energy communities.
Sen. Gene Yaw, representing the 23rd Senatorial District, serves as chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.
