State Representative Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) recently honored students from the 83rd District at the 108th Pennsylvania Farm Show. The students, from Warrior Run and Montgomery Area school districts, were recognized for their achievements at the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Mid-Winter Convention.
As part of the convention, the students received blue corduroy jackets, which are a symbol of membership in the FFA. These jackets, funded by over $70,000 in sponsorships, were the largest single purchase of FFA jackets in history. A total of 970 blue jackets were given to first-year FFA members from across the state.
Representative Flick, who has a personal connection to agriculture as he grew up on a farm, emphasized the importance of young people remaining dedicated to the industry. He said, "After speaking with several FFA students from my district, I was amazed by their dedication to our area and Pennsylvania's agriculture industry." Flick expressed confidence in the upcoming generation of farmers, stating, "It is evident their passion and ambition will take our agriculture industry to new heights."
The students from Warrior Run who received their blue jackets were Brooke Johnson, Creeden Moser, Blake Jones, Terrin Reaser, Lydia Keener, and Keyana Steinbacher. Nevin Beachel, Carly Snyder, and Weston Taylor were the students from Montgomery Area.
The advisors of the local FFA chapters, Chloe Witmoyer and Chris Ulrich, also played a significant role in supporting the students throughout the process.
The blue jacket program is organized through the PA FFA Alumni Association, which aims to support and encourage the next generation of agricultural leaders.
With the recognition of these students at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, Representative Flick hopes to inspire more young people to pursue careers in agriculture. He looks forward to seeing "more blue jackets in our community."
