State Representative Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) has issued a statement reflecting on his first year in office serving the 83rd District. In his statement, Flick expresses his dedication to advocating for the district and supporting common-sense laws in Harrisburg that benefit the local community.

Flick highlights his efforts in securing state grant funding for the district, with a total of $8.4 million awarded so far. He specifically mentions the allocation of $3.4 million to the Williamsport Sanitary Authority, which is expected to result in a 20% savings for ratepayers over the next two years.

Throughout his first year, Flick has introduced several pieces of legislation aimed at addressing various issues. These include eliminating emissions testing for Lycoming County and similar-sized counties, providing line of duty death benefits for coroners and deputy coroners, and changing requirements for temporary substitute teachers. He also emphasizes his support for proposed legislation to strengthen voter ID, reduce the size of the state government, reduce property taxes for veterans and senior citizens, and create Supreme Court term limits.

Finding common ground and working across party lines is important to Flick. He mentions the creation of the Meet Me in the Middle Caucus, where colleagues from both sides of the aisle come together to find common ground on important issues such as mental health, resources for people and children with disabilities, and supporting children.

Flick also expresses his admiration for the industries in the district and the hardworking individuals behind them. From energy and telecommunications to flow forming metal products, he believes the 83rd District has the perfect environment for industry and attracting new businesses to create more jobs.

In terms of personal responsibility, Flick highlights his decision to withhold his paycheck until the state budget was fully passed. He also chose not to receive certain benefits such as the pension, 401k, per diem, and meal reimbursement. Furthermore, he does not accept money from special interest groups, super PACs, or lobbyists.

Representative Jamie Flick concludes his statement by reaffirming his commitment to speaking from the heart, voting for his district, and ensuring a good night's sleep. He encourages anyone in need of assistance to contact his district office.
