The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has recently announced the recipients of the Cultural and Historical Support Grants in the 23rd District. A total of $24,000 has been awarded to six eligible museums and official county historical societies in North Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Senator Gene Yaw, representing the 23rd Senatorial District, expressed his enthusiasm for the grant recipients, stating, "The 23rd Senatorial District is home to some great museums and historical societies, which exhibit the rich history that we have in North Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. The grants awarded will help these facilities continue the work they do preserving history and educating the public."

The grants provided by PHMC will support the general operations of the museums and official county historical societies, ensuring that they can continue their important work in preserving and showcasing the region's history. These organizations often rely on such funding to maintain their collections, offer educational programs, and engage with the public.

PHMC follows a formula-based approach for awarding grants, allocating a percentage of the organization's annual operating budget. The maximum grant any museum could receive is $44,945, while all official county historical societies receive a minimum grant of $4,000.

The grant recipients for the Cultural and Historical Support Grants in the 23rd District include museums and historical societies in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties. The exact breakdown of grant amounts for each county is yet to be announced.
