State Senator Gene Yaw has been honored with the "Shale Gas Advocate Award" by the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) for his exceptional contributions in advocating for the development, transportation, and use of Pennsylvania's natural gas resources. The award was presented to Sen. Yaw during the MSC 2023 Annual Awards Ceremony held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington on November 28th.

Sen. Yaw expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "The Marcellus Shale industry has been a great partner in ensuring consumers have access to affordable, reliable energy and creating new jobs and economic opportunities. As a legislator, I am committed to advancing measures that unleash Pennsylvania's energy potential while improving our environment and protecting it for future generations."

As the chair of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, Sen. Yaw played a crucial role in the establishment of the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee, now known as Act 13 of 2012. This legislation has generated over $2.5 billion in tax revenue, supporting county and local governments and funding critical economic development and environmental projects.

Sen. Yaw's efforts have also focused on expanding access to natural gas service for underserved households and reducing surface impacts from unconventional gas wells. He has worked alongside former Gov. Ed Rendell and fellow legislators to create the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) fund, which utilizes impact fees collected from natural gas companies to expand housing opportunities in the state.

Dave Callahan, President of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, praised Sen. Yaw for his dedication to responsible energy development, stating, "Senator Yaw has been a steadfast advocate for developing Pennsylvania's natural resources in a safe and responsible manner. He has advanced the interests of his constituents and communities while helping Pennsylvania achieve historic improvements in its environmental, conservation, and energy security efforts."

The Marcellus Shale Coalition, founded in 2008, collaborates with exploration and production, midstream, and supply chain partners in the Appalachian Basin and across the country to address issues related to the production of clean, job-creating, American natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays.
