The Lock Haven men's basketball team (3-1) picked up a road victory over Chestnut Hill (2-4), 67-56, on Monday evening in a non-conference contest.
The win is a special one for head coach Mike Nestor, who notched his 105th career win. That mark ties him for most all-time at Lock Haven with Dave Blank, who led the Bald Eagles from 1988 to 1995.
After trading buckets to start the opening half, the Bald Eagles were able to stretch ahead by as many as 13 points in the opening 20 minutes. Lock Haven shot a sparkling 55 percent from beyond the arc in the first half and were able to grab a 33-27 advantage going into the break.
Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) lit up the scoreboard early and ended the half with 10 points including 2-2 from downtown.
With 13 minutes to play in the game, the Bald Eagles claimed their largest lead of the game at 48-33. The Griffins cut it to as few as six at one point, but The Haven matched every run that Chestnut Hill made and cruised home for a comfortable 67-56 win on the road in Philadelphia.
Davis added 14 more points in the second half to rack up a team-best 24 points on 9-15 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range. Davis was also strong on the defensive end tallying a game-high four steals.
The hallmark balanced scoring from Lock Haven saw Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael's)) add 12 points, Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) chip in 10 points, and Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) total nine points.
Washington also led the rebounding effort alongside James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) as both Bald Eagles hauled in six rebounds.
As a team, The Haven finished the night shooting 44 percent from beyond the arc as Montague added two of his own, while Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wis./Madison La Follette) and Adam Freese (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) each splashed one from downtown.
