Women’s Wrestling Soars to No. 10 in NWCA Rankings

Today (Nov. 17) the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the latest NCAA Women’s Wrestling rankings, and the Lock Haven women’s wrestling jumped to the No. 10 spot buoyed by their dominant victory over previously No. 14 ranked East Stroudsburg on November 10.

For The Haven, it marks their highest national ranking in program history in just the second full season of competition. In 2021, the Bald Eagles held claim to the No. 14 rank.

The individual rankings saw two fresh faces make the jump into the spotlight. At 130 pounds and holding a 4-1 record, Lily Sherer (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) catapulted to No. 4 after her sensational pin of then No. 3 ranked Mia Macaluso of East Stroudsburg.

Freshman Grace Stem (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle) made the leap to No. 6 at 143 pounds. Stem is off to a flawless 5-0 start including an individual title at the Princeton Open on November 6th.

The Haven is set for another nationally-ranked matchup in Mat-Town U.S.A as the No. 15 ranked Gothic Knights of New Jersey City come to town on Saturday, November 19. That dual is set for a 7 p.m. start in Thomas Fieldhouse. The Knights bring with them three individually ranked wrestlers: 109 – #7 Izabella Frezzo, 123 – #8 Naomi Henry and 191 – #8 Sandra Guerrero.

The last time out for the Bald Eagles, head coach Matt Lackey and The Haven knocked off No. 14 ranked East Stroudsburg on Thursday, November 10th. It marked the first win under Lackey’s leadership, as the Bald Eagles won four out of five contested bouts, including three by way of pins, for the 28-19 victory.
