Women’s Basketball Rolls to Senior Night Win Over PSU Altoona, 88-40

The Lock Haven women's basketball team (2-2) cruised to a Senior Night victory over visiting Penn State Altoona (0-3), 88-40, in non-conference action on Thursday night in Thomas Fieldhouse.

Prior to tipoff, the Bald Eagle honored the two graduating members of the Class of 2023, Maddi Metzler (Martinsburg, Pa./Central Martinsburg) and Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown).

Lock Haven came out of the gates quickly in their home opener and amassed an early 15-2 lead. The good vibes continued for the Bald Eagles and they pushed ahead to a 27-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Bald Eagles continued to roll through the second quarter and racked up a 48-18 lead at the break.

Strong shooting and a lockdown defense were the themes of the night and they carried The Haven to a comfortable 88-40 victory in their first home outing of the season. Lock Haven shot an impressive 52.6 percent from the field while holding the Nittany Lions to just a 28 percent field goal percentage.

Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) paced a quartet of Bald Eagles in scoring with 14 points. Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) chipped in 13 points, while Carly Fitzmorris (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley (Frostburg State)) added 11 and 10, respectively.

Both Lawyer and Fitzmorris knocked home three shots from beyond the arc, and shot a combined 6-10 from downtown.

The seniors, Lonardi and Metzler, knocked in five points and two points, respectively. Lonardi, who was competing in her only action of the season due to injury, nailed a three-pointer in the second quarter to the delight of the home fans.

Defensively, the Bald Eagles forced 19 turnovers led by Lawyer's three steals. Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) also added two steals and seven rebounds.

On the glass, Robinson hauled in a game-high eight rebounds as The Haven outrebounded the visitors by a 48-30 margin.
