The 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament will begin Wednesday, November 9 following the regular season coming to a close Saturday evening. The top seeds from the East and West were Shepherd and Gannon, respectively.
Representing all four seeds in the East are Shepherd, Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg and West Chester.
The Rams claim the regular season East title after they went 12-2 in league matches with their only two league losses coming back in the beginning of the season. They opened the year with losses at Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg but have since won 12 consecutive conference matches.
They will host fourth-seeded West Chester who went 8-6 in the regular season. Their 8-6 record tied with East Stroudsburg; however, the Warriors won the tiebreaker with them winning more sets in their two meetings.
Shippensburg is the second seed in the Eastern Division after going 10-4 in PSAC play. The Raiders snagged a few big wins in their league matches including one against Shepherd while also sweeping the season series against ESU. They will host the Warriors in the quarterfinals.
ESU got the third seed with an 8-6 mark in league play and have won two straight heading into their meeting with Shippensburg.
In the West, Gannon took the top seed, Clarion is second, IUP third and Edinboro Fourth.
The Golden Knights got that regular season crown on the last day of the regular season with a five-set thriller against Clarion. Gannon is 15-1 and will host fourth-ranked Edinboro.
The Fighting Scots are 9-7 claiming the last spot in the West with key wins down the stretch over Seton Hill and Mercyhurst.
The second seed is Clarion with a 14-2 mark in conference play. Clarion has been one of the top teams in the region with a 24-3 overall record. They started league play on a 10-game winning streak before falling at California (Pa.). They will host IUP who claimed the third seed.
IUP comes into the tournament 10-6 in league matches and took that third seed with a big win over Mercyhurst Saturday getting their 10th win.
The quarterfinals will begin November 9 and will be at the team with the higher seed within the division. The semifinals and finals will be at the highest remaining seed in the Western Division and will be November 12-13. All matches during the quarterfinal round will be at 7 p.m. For the full schedule, see below:
