Setting the Stage:
The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team gets set to open a new ear under first-year head coach Matt Lackey on Sunday (Nov. 6) at the Princeton Open. Lackey was hired on October 19th and looks to repeat the success the Bald Eagles enjoyed in 2021-22 in just their first full season of competition.
Bald Eagles Ranked 19th Nationally:
As a team The Haven opened the season as the No. 19 team in the country in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) preseason NCAA Women's Wrestling rankings. Individually, Carly Gross was tabbed at the No. 7 wrestler in the country at 116 pounds.
New Era:
Matt Lackey officially returned to Mat-Town USA. The former NCAA Division I men's national champion wrestler and the 2003 Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year has been named Lock Haven's new head women's wrestling coach and he will also serve as an assistant coach with the men's program at The Haven.
Lackey returns to The Haven after previously serving as the men's assistant wrestling coach at Lock Haven from 2009-2011.
