Men’s Soccer soars past Shepherd for Senior Night victory

The Lock Haven men's soccer team (6-7-5, 4-4-4 PSAC East) rolled to a convincing Senior Night win over Shepherd (1-10-6, 0-8-3 PSAC East), 3-0, as the Bald Eagles closed out the 2022 regular season in style on Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.

Prior to kickoff, the Bald Eagles honored its group of four seniors: Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)), Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), Caleb Olive (Emerald, QLD, Australia/Pembroke School) and Justin Douglas (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).

The Bald Eagles started in a hurry and had a handful of chances saved in the opening minutes including a penalty save and a free kick that rattled the post. Lock Haven finally broke through in the 25th minute when Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) pounced on a rebound to push The Haven to a 1-0 lead. Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) was credited with an assist on the opening goal.

Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) struck off a free-kick just minutes before halftime with a beautiful effort to leave the goalkeeper stranded and hand Lock Haven a 2-0 lead at the break.

Davis Dull (Altoona, Pa./Blair County Christian) kept the party going early in the second half when he smashed home a goal in the 49th minute to push The Haven ahead 3-0. Hershey and Jimmy Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) were both credited with assists after some slick passing.

The Bald Eagles cruised home for the remainder of the half to bring home the regular season-ending victory 3-0.

Lock Haven held a decisive 22-5 lead in shots and controlled the possession as Ruiz de Eguilaz was forced into just two saves. His opening save came just minutes into the contest when he made an impressive one-on-one save to keep the game scoreless.

Burke, Ryan Foskey (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) held down the backline for The Haven as they sealed their fourth clean sheet of the season.
