Women’s Soccer drops home contest with Kutztown

The Lock Haven women's soccer team (3-9-3, 1-9-3 PSAC East) came up short, 3-1, after a late flurry from Kutztown University (9-4-3, 8-4-3 PSAC East) on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

The Bald Eagles also dedicated tonight's game as a "Pink Out" to support breast cancer awareness and research. Donations are welcomed to komen.org

Kutztown broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after the Golden Bears converted the spot kick in the 25th minute. Kutztown held onto the 1-0 lead heading into halftime to set up an entertaining second half.

Mackenzie Hernley (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) equalized for Lock Haven when she linked up with Ella Hart (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) inside the box to bring the Bald Eagles level at 1-1.

As the second half ticked on, the Bald Eagles looked poised to take the lead, but back-to-back goals just 35 seconds apart for the Golden Bears in the 77th minute proved to be the crucial blow. The visitors held on through the final minutes to take home the 3-1 victory.

Megan Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) made four saves in goal but faced 17 shots from the visitors.

Senior Josie Swartz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) was strong in the midfield alongside the goal-scorer Hernley and Leana Cuzzocrea (Mars, Pa./Mars Area).
