PSAC Set for 2022 Individual Tennis Championships

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Bloomsburg University will gear up for the 2022 Individual Tennis Championships beginning Saturday, October 1 from the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

The Individual Tennis Championships will consist of a Singles and Doubles Tournament with the brackets to be announced Friday.

Matches will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with Women’s and Men’s Doubles. Women’s Singles will begin at 11:30 a.ma while the Men’s Singles will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Last year, the PSAC got back on track hosting the Individual Tennis Championships after not hosting one in 2020.

In the 2021 championships, the champions of the Women’s Doubles were Karolin Kirchtag/Katy Graydon (IUP) and the Singles champion was Kirchtag (IUP). Over on the men’s side, the Doubles champions were Carlos Martinez/Frank Yanni (Millersville) and the Singles champion was Bruno Sabio (Edinboro).

This tournament will follow the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Individual Regional Tennis Tournament which occurred September 16-19 in Bloomsburg.

For the women, a pair of the likely favorites in the tournament will be Kayla Dean (Mercyhurst) and Kirchtag. Dean defeated Kirchtag in the semifinals of the ITA Regionals and fell in the finals to Charleston’s (W.Va.) Prinkle Singh.

In Women’s Doubles, the team of Graydon/Lydia Vlachou is expected to make a deep run after falling in the ITA Regional Final to the team of Sofiia Krasikova/Alyssa Cameron (Charleston (W.Va.).

Over on the Men’s Singles side, Ruben Acuna of Edinboro will look to make a splash. He fell in the semifinals at ITA’s against Viktor Yanev of Davis & Elkins.

The Fighting Scots Doubles squad of Bruno Sabio/Rocco Palombarini will also aim to be dangerous as they fell in the Doubles finals of ITA’s to Jowan Rawson/Lennert Stevens of Charleston (W.Va.).

Of the teams represented in the men’s and women’s PSAC Individual Tennis Championship will be Bloomsburg, California (Pa.), Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, IUP, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mercyhurst, Millersville, Seton Hill, Shepherd, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.
