Rachel Ward, a 2015 Lock Haven University graduate and former Bald Eagle lacrosse standout, made her fourth appearance for the Irish National Team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship, beginning on June 30 in Towson, Maryland.
Ireland, "The Green Machine," drew a spot in Pool D, and after dropping their first matchup against New Zealand, rattled off three straight wins over Spain, Hong Kong, China and Austria to qualify for the knockout rounds.
In the championship bracket, Ireland dropped their opening matchup with Australia and fell to Scotland in the consolation bracket before rebounding for another win over Hong Kong, China and a victory in the 13th place match over Germany.
Through pool play, Ward was second on the team in goals with eight and added two assists for 10 total points. The former Bald Eagle added four more goals throughout the remainder of the tournament for a team third-best 12 goals and 14 total points.
Ward is the currently an assistant coach at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival East Stroudsburg. Notably in 2015, Ward was the second-leading goal scorer for Team Ireland at The European Championships and helped lead the team to a fifth-place finish, the highest in team history.
During her playing career at LHU, Ward was an All-PSAC selection in 2013 and 2015. She helped lead the Bald Eagles to national runner-up status in 2014 and 2015. Lock Haven also captured the PSAC Women's Lacrosse Championship in 2014 and 2015. Ward was named to the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game in 2015.
