Clinton County issued the following announcement on Apr. 22.
The Clinton County Commissioners encouraged residents to take care of the planet.
Commissioner Angela Harding brought up the topic during the board's voting session Thursday, noting that April 22 (today) is Earth Day.
"Community groups across our county will be volunteering to clean up our county after winter and wind," Harding said. "Just for example, Downtown Lock Haven (Inc.) has been cleaning up for four days this week with Susquehanna Greenways. They have volunteers from the city and Lock Haven University."
Harding noted Lock Haven Kiwanis, which she is a member of, adopted state Route 150 and will hold a clean up next week.
"Cleanscapes already performed a Fishing Creek Clean Up and is planning a Bald Eagle State Forest dump site clean up in Lamar Township on May 7," she said.
Beyond just these groups, Harding said the Earth Day holiday will bring many others out to take the time to clean up debris and beautify the county.
"I would encourage everyone to participate in that effort. If picking up garbage isn't your thing, there are some other ways that you can contribute," she said.
Harding noted the Clinton County Conservation District's annual tree sale is on-going until today. "There's a variety of trees they have for sale that you can purchase and plant," she said.
On Saturday, the Clinton County Arts Council, conservation district, Clinton County Master Gardeners and Ross Library will hold an Earth Day event at the Station Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m.
"(They) are holding a pollinator event. Everyone is welcome. There will be children's activities ... pollinator seeds and information for people to learn more about that," she said.
"I just want to encourage everyone to keep Pennsylvania beautiful by starting right here in Clinton County," Harding concluded.
Commissioner Jeff Snyder echoed Harding's statements.
"I would encourage people away from throwing your garbage out of your vehicles when you're traveling along the roads," Snyder said. "We wouldn't have all these people out cleaning up after you if you did. Think before you throw it out the window."
"Just don't throw it out the window," Chairman Miles Kessinger added.
