PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week – 2

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference issued the following announcement on Mar. 29.

 The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selected this week’s outdoor track & field athletes of the week. For the women, Divonne Franklin of Cal U and Elizabeth Makar of East Stroudsburg were selected. On the men’s side, Eric Kirk and Shamar Jenkins of Shippensburg were picked.

Franklin broke the school record in the 200-meter dash and reached the NCAA provisional standard in the 100-meter dash over the weekend while at the Raleigh Relays. She posted a time of 24.50 seconds in the 200 meters while in North Carolina, eclipsing the school record set in 2019 by over two-tenths of a second. Franklin also registered the fastest time in the PSAC (eighth-best in NCAA Division II) this spring in the 100 meters with a time of 11.76 seconds. The Philadelphia native competed in fields comprised of nearly exclusively NCAA Division I entries.

Elizabeth Makar picked up right where she left off to open the outdoor season as the sophomore won the hammer throw and shot put while finishing third in the discus at the WCU Quad. Makar recorded a school record throw of 14.37m in the shot put, which is a PSAC automatic qualifier and a NCAA provisional mark.

At the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational at Lynchburg, Eric Kirk ran a collegiate PR in the 100 meters of 10.59 seconds in the semifinals to set the early PSAC benchmark as the fastest time in the league for the event in the early season.

Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

At the Dr. Jack L. Toms Alumni Invitational hosted by Lynchburg, Shamar Jenkins won the triple jump on Saturday to record a NCAA-provisional qualifying mark. Jenkins had a top jump of 48 feet, 6 ¾ inches, equaling his best performance of the 2021 season and also equaling the top mark in the PSAC recorded last week by Cal U's Jalen Cloud.
