Baseball opens weekend series at Kutztown, drops nine-inning game on the road

Lock Haven University Athletics issued the following announcement on Mar 18.

The LHU baseball team competed on the road against conference opponent Kutztown in a low scoring battle.

The Lock Haven University baseball team (6-11, 0-4 PSAC East) traveled to Kutztown (5-12, 1-3 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Friday afternoon. 

The matchup was highlighted by two sparkling efforts on the mound, which silenced both sides offensively. 

Kutztown notched a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning which proved to be decisive as the Golden Bears held on for a 1-0 victory. 

David Keller (Oreland, Pa/Christopher Dock Mennonite) was the shining star for the Bald Eagles. The starting pitcher struck out seven batters through seven innings pitched, and allowed only a solo run and four hits throughout the day. Garrett Starr (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) came in for relief, and pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

For Kutztown, Zach Male pitched a complete game shutout from the mound and allowed just three hits while striking out eight batters. 

Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley), Justin Lichtenwalner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Zach Kaatz (Staffor, Va./Mountain View) each tallied one of the three Bald Eagle hits on the day. 

SCHEDULE UPDATE:

The Bald Eagles will wrap up the three-game series with Kutztown on Sunday, March 20th with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
