Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference issued the following announcement on Mar. 6.
Gannon defeated Cal U 59-47 to win the 2022 PSAC Women’s Basketball Championship Sunday afternoon at Keystone Arena. It’s the Golden Knights’ second conference championship, following their first title in 2020.
At the end of the first quarter, the teams were locked at 14 apiece. At halftime, Gannon held a 38-34 lead over Cal U. Gannon maintained a 46-43 lead after 30 minutes of play.
In the final 5:37, Gannon kept Cal U off the board. The Golden Knights outscored the Vulcans 13-4 in the final quarter.
Gannon’s Emma Wright was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She led the team with 19 points and grabbed four rebounds against Cal U. On Saturday against Kutztown, she scored 15 points and pulled in eight rebounds.
Samantha Priosko dropped 16 points and led the Golden Knights with 12 rebounds. On the defensive end, Sydney Mitchell, Delaney Dogan, and Emily Poling each grabbed two steals.
Dejah Terrell of Cal U scored 17 points and blocked three shots. Ciaira Loyd led the Vulcans with 14 rebounds and she recorded 15 points.
With the win, Gannon earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins March 11. The remainder of the field will be announced Sunday, March 6 at 10 PM ET.
