Generous gift sets women’s golf up for future success

Ball

Lock Haven University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

The Lock Haven University women's golf program recently received a donation of $30,000.

The generous gift, which came from an anonymous donor, will make a huge impact on head coach Chad Anthony's young program.

According to Coach Anthony, the funds will be used in a variety of areas, including the purchase of practice and training aids, gear and equipment for the student-athletes, push carts, spring break travel and scholarships.

"Although it's hard to put into words, the program and I are extremely grateful for the amazing generosity of the donor," Anthony said. "Donations like this make an immediate impact and the gift certainly helps us build on and strengthen the program's future."

Dr. Tom Gioglio, director of athletics, echoed the gratitude toward the donor and the impact the gift will make on our women's golf student-athletes.

"The generous gift received illustrates the power of selflessness and kindness and will make a profound difference," Gioglio said. "Coach Anthony and I are extremely grateful and truly appreciate the support, which will elevate our women's golf program."

Back in August of 2018, LHU announced its plans to add women's golf as a varsity program, a sport never sponsored before at The Haven. The Bald Eagles made their official debut last spring at the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships, held April 9-10.

LHU opened this year's action on September 13 with the program's first-ever home match, held at Clinton Country Club. In all, Lock Haven was in action three times during the fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule and the Bald Eagles are set to return to action in the spring.
