Hughesville Junior Senior High School issued the following announcement on Sept. 22.

After a lengthy weather delay, the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (3-1-1) soared past Slippery Rock University (2-2-2), 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover match. After a lengthy weather delay, the game was called in the 81st minute because of darkness with The Haven rolling to the 3-1 victory.

In a battle of the two of the top-10 teams in the Atlantic Region, Slippery Rock, the No. 10 team in the region, struck first in the 39th minute and the hosts took a 1-0 lead.

Andrea DiSomma (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) leveled things up for the Bald Eagles, ranked eighth in the region, in the 50th minute when he found the back of the net - unassisted - for his team-high third goal.

Just shortly after the LHU equalizer, a lightning strike in the area caused the game to be sent into a weather delay. Upon return to play in the 67th minute - over an hour later - Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School) bagged his first goal as a Bald Eagle off an assist from Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) and LHU took a 2-1 lead.

Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) pushed The Haven advantage to 3-1 after he notched the second goal of his freshman campaign, putting the icing on the cake of the Bald Eagles' victory.

Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) started in goal for the Bald Eagles and made four saves as The Haven moved its winning streak to three.

LHU held a commanding 13-6 lead in shots as the Bald Eagles put constant pressure on the Slippery Rock backline. Led by Hershey's five shots, The Haven peppered the Rock goalkeeper with eight shots on target.

The defensive trio of Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford), Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Chase Tackett (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) played all 81 minutes for LHU and stifled the Slippery Rock offense.
