Penn College baseball faced a challenging start to their 2025 season, dropping both games of their opening day doubleheader against Gettysburg. The matches took place on Sunday afternoon in Aberdeen, Maryland. Gettysburg secured victories with scores of 11-3 in the first game and 11-1 in the second, leaving Penn College with a 0-2 record while Gettysburg stands at 2-0.
In the first game, Gettysburg established an early lead with runs in the first and second innings. McGuire Heverly brought in Penn College's first run of the season during the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that allowed Nathan Gustkey to score. However, Gettysburg extended their lead by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth, reaching an 11-1 advantage. Penn College managed two additional runs in the seventh inning through RBI singles from Dallas Griess and Shawn Townsend. Griess, Townsend, and Kevin Cute each recorded two hits for Penn College.
The second game saw Gettysburg continue their strong performance by scoring three runs in the first inning, followed by additional runs across subsequent innings. Penn College's only run came when John Croasdale walked with two outs in the third inning and later scored on a wild pitch. Ethan Stahl, Levi Purnell, and Ty Jenkins each contributed a hit.
