The Schuylkill County Historical Society in Pottsville has installed 25 new windows at its downtown location, funded by $150,000 in state support secured by Senator Dave Argall and Representative Tim Twardzik, along with private donations. These new installations replace the original 161-year-old windows dating back to when the building served as the Female Grammar School in the late 19th century. Both Argall and Twardzik joined society staff for a tour of the new additions.

"The window project has been a long time coming," stated Diana Prosymchak, Executive Director of the Schuylkill County Historical Society. "Thanks to Sen. Argall, Rep. Twardzik, and our members, we have finally made a great difference in the society’s building. We have installed 25 new windows, which improved the exterior look and climate control of the building. The new windows are energy-efficient and control UV light. This is important to the history stored in these walls."

Argall emphasized the importance of preserving local heritage: "Schuylkill County has a very rich history, rooted in coal, farming, railroads, and textiles – preserving that history for future generations is extremely important." He noted that state funding combined with private support provides a solid foundation for restoring this historic site.

Twardzik also highlighted the significance of these efforts: "This valuable Keystone Communities Grant will help preserve the rich history of Schuylkill County," he said. "Installing these new windows marks meaningful progress in restoring this historic building."

The Schuylkill County Historical Society offers various services including artifact collections, genealogical resources, interactive tours, seminars, special exhibits, events, and educational programs. It is located at 305 North Centre Street in downtown Pottsville and operates from Wednesday to Saturday.

The state funding was awarded through the Keystone Communities Program under Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development. This program encourages public-private partnerships aimed at revitalizing older communities.
