Penn defeats Maine at Cathedral Classic Invitational

The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team secured a victory against Maine with a score of 77-64 at The Palestra during the Cathedral Classic Invitational presented by Toyota. The Quakers managed to hold the Black Bears scoreless for over three minutes in the final stretch, going on a decisive 10-0 run that sealed their win.

This victory brought Penn's overall record to 3-4, while Maine fell to 4-4. This match marked the first meeting between these two teams. Notably, Penn outrebounded Maine with a margin of 39-21 and achieved a season-best free throw shooting percentage of 87.5%.

Junior Ethan Roberts led Penn in scoring for the second consecutive night with 23 points and recorded his second double-double of the season by adding ten rebounds. Senior Nick Spinoso contributed significantly with 14 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Sophomore Sam Brown scored 19 points, getting to the foul line 14 times and making 13 shots. Junior Dylan Williams added 12 points to the team's effort.

Maine's performance was highlighted by Kellen Tynes who scored 15 points and had six assists. Quion Burns and A.J. Lopez each contributed 13 points for the Black Bears.

The game saw Penn taking an early lead through successive runs in the first half, maintaining a six-point lead at halftime. Despite Maine's efforts to close the gap in the second half, Penn's strategic plays ensured their victory as they extended their lead in crucial moments.

Penn will conclude its participation in the Cathedral Classic Invitational on Sunday against Elon after hosting Navy-Maine earlier that day.
