Economic development projects in the Hazleton area and northern Schuylkill County are moving forward with the help of $6.5 million in state grants. The funding was secured by Sen. Dave Argall and Rep. Dane Watro, who collaborated with local leaders.

“Ranging from reclaiming abandoned mine lands in Hazleton for businesses and new housing to the Center for Education, Business and the Arts in Shenandoah, these projects will benefit residents of the 116th Legislative District for many years to come,” said Watro. “Funding support from Harrisburg is so important in making local projects like these a reality and I was happy to assist in securing the grants.”

Argall added, “By funding these projects, we’re helping local businesses create new, family-sustaining jobs and much-needed new housing and continuing the economic resurgence of our area.”

The funds were provided through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which supports economic development initiatives with regional significance.
