College students in Pennsylvania interested in state government careers can now apply for summer internships in Harrisburg, facilitated by the James A. Finnegan Fellowship Foundation. This opportunity was highlighted by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), who himself benefited from an internship through this program during his college years.

“This is a great opportunity for Pennsylvania’s future leaders,” said Argall. “The Finnegan Foundation allows college students from across Pennsylvania who are interested in politics and government to take their experience to the next level.”

Internships are awarded based on an essay contest where applicants must write between 1,500 and 2,500 words on a controversial policy currently under consideration by the General Assembly. For the 2025 contest, applicants need to address whether school vouchers should be included in Pennsylvania’s next state budget.

Submissions for essays and other materials are due by January 24, 2025. Winners will receive a cash prize and placement in paid state government summer internships lasting eight to ten weeks in Harrisburg.
