Penn College's women's soccer team was defeated by St. Mary's with a score of 2-0 in the United East semifinals held on Wednesday. The match concluded the Wildcats' season, leaving them with a record of 15 wins, one loss, and four draws. Meanwhile, St. Mary's improved their record to 17 wins, one loss, and three draws as they moved forward to face Penn State Harrisburg in Saturday's championship game.
During the first half of the match, Penn College managed two shots on target. Brooke Klinger attempted a shot in the 20th minute followed by Megan Kurian in the 29th minute; both were saved by St. Mary's defense. The Seahawks scored their first goal at the 31st-minute mark. Penn College had another opportunity just before halftime when Kurian's shot was again saved and Kathyrn Dunn's rebound attempt was also stopped.
In the second half, St. Mary's extended their lead with an assisted goal in the 53rd minute. Despite three more attempts from Cassie Johnson (64th minute), Megan Kurian (67th minute), and Sierra Klinger (81st minute), all were successfully blocked by St. Mary's goalkeeper.
Statistically, Penn College outshot St. Mary’s with an overall count of 11-8 and had more shots on goal at 7-2 but trailed slightly in corner kicks with seven against six for the Seahawks. Nicole Lichtinger was noted as taking the loss for Penn College as their goalkeeper.
