Stunned by an early goal, Penn College Wildcats were unable to bounce back in their United East men's soccer quarterfinal match against Cairn University. The game concluded with a 2-0 victory for the third-seeded Highlanders over the sixth-seeded Wildcats on Saturday night.
Penn College's season came to an end with an overall record of 11-5-3, while Cairn advanced to the semifinals with an 11-2-5 record.
The Highlanders made a quick impact, scoring in the third minute when a shot eluded Penn College's goalkeeper, Cole Catherman. Shortly after, Logan Stapleton of the Wildcats had a chance to equalize but failed to score after attempting to chip the ball over Cairn's keeper. Cairn extended their lead with another goal in the 29th minute and maintained it throughout the second half.
Penn College managed four shots on goal and three corner kicks during the match. Their defense prevented any corners for Cairn. Cole Catherman recorded six saves over 90 minutes. Tommy DeGeyter and Jack Lenosky each took shots on target late in the second half but were stopped by Cairn's goalkeeper. The Highlanders held an 18-14 advantage in total shots, including eight on target compared to Penn College’s four.
