Penn College's tennis teams concluded their season with losses at Cairn University on Saturday. The men's team was narrowly defeated 5-4, while the women's team lost 8-1.
The Penn College men's team ended the season with a record of 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the United East (UE) conference. The women's team finished with a 4-8 overall record and also 2-5 in the UE. Cairn University's men's team now holds a 5-4 overall record and is 4-2 in the UE, while its women's team boasts a strong 9-1 overall record and remains undefeated at 5-0 in the UE.
In the men's matches, Penn College secured victories in three out of six singles matches and one out of three doubles matches. Kyle Shuler won at No. 1 singles with scores of 7-5, 6-1; Logan Ogden triumphed at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-1, 7-5; and Jason Manbeck emerged victorious at No. 5 singles after a tiebreaker, scoring 4-6, 6-2 (10-8). In doubles play, Shuler paired with Jesse Kight to win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 pro-set.
For the women’s team, Faith Murray was the sole winner for Penn College, securing victory at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-3. Cairn University claimed five out of six singles matches—four by forfeit—and swept all three doubles matches—two by forfeit.
With these results, Penn College's regular season has come to an end.
