Penn College women's soccer forward Kaelynn Sheetz has been recognized with a Second Team Academic All-America® selection by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). This marks a significant achievement as Sheetz is the first women's soccer student-athlete from Penn College to receive this honor.
"Kaelynn has been a shining example of what every coach wants from their student-athletes. She has shown an unrivaled dedication both on and off the field," stated Penn College head coach Ian Scheller. He further noted, "She holds a very special place in the history of our women's soccer program and has left a mark on our program for years to come. She has earned many honors over the past few seasons, but this one might be more impressive than any other."
Sheetz, who is majoring in nursing with a cumulative GPA of 3.94, achieved several records during the 2023 season. Her performance helped lead the Wildcats to an 11-2-7 record and into the United East Volt Division Semifinals. In her final season, she set single-season records with 24 goals and 54 total points, alongside six assists. Her seven game-winning goals were unmatched in the United East conference, while she ranked second for total goals and points.
On September 20th, Sheetz broke the previous career goals record against Penn State Altoona with two goals. On October 10th, she surpassed the career points record against Penn State Abington with four goals and an assist. By season's end, her records stood at 49 career goals and 113 career points.
In addition to her Academic All-America recognition, Sheetz was named to her second United East All-Conference First Team, included in the CSC Academic-All District Team, and selected for a United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region IV Third Team.
The title of Academic All-American is awarded to college athletes who excel both academically and athletically. The award was established in 1952 by College Sports Communicators and recognizes achievements across all NCAA levels as well as NAIA institutions.
