The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team will have representation at the FIBA U20 Eurobasket this year. Incoming freshman Michelangelo Oberti is set to play for Italy in the tournament, which takes place from July 13 to July 21 in Gdynia, Poland.
Italy will compete in Group B and is scheduled to face Germany on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. Eastern Time), Israel on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. Eastern), and Czechia on Monday at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. Eastern) during group play. The knockout stage begins on Wednesday, July 17, with quarterfinals on Thursday, July 18, semifinals on Saturday, July 20, and the championship game slated for Sunday, July 21. Each team is guaranteed seven games over the course of the nine-day event.
Oberti follows in the footsteps of other Penn players who have participated in Eurobasket competitions recently. Rising junior Johnnie Walter represented Germany in last year's U20 Championship while rising sophomore Niklas Polonowski played for Denmark at last year's U18 Eurobasket.
All matches from the 2024 U20 Eurobasket will be broadcast live on FIBA's YouTube channel.
