Penn College defeats Mount Aloysius with strong ninth-inning performance

Penn College secured an 11-6 victory over Mount Aloysius in a nonconference baseball match on Monday. The Wildcats now hold a record of 17-16, while the Mounties' record stands at 19-2.

In the game, Mount Aloysius initially took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, Penn College responded with a home run by Brandon Shane in the second inning, followed by Shawn Townsend's sacrifice in the fourth and Matt Munoz's home run in the fifth to gain a 3-1 advantage. Although the Mounties scored again in the fifth inning, Munoz hit an RBI in the sixth to maintain Penn College's lead at 4-2.

Mount Aloysius added one run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to take a narrow 5-4 lead. In response, bases-loaded walks from John Croasdale, Anthony Barbella, and Townsend contributed three runs for Penn College in the ninth inning. Additional contributions came from Jaydon Goebel's single, Shane being hit by a pitch, Jaiden Augustine's fielder's choice, and another single by Munoz. This effort resulted in seven runs for Penn College during their final inning.

Munoz ended with three hits and three RBIs for Penn College, while Barbella also recorded two hits. Wyatt Hershey improved his record to 2-0 after pitching for two-thirds of an inning.

Looking ahead, Penn College is set to play against Lycoming College on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
