Penn College baseball team delivered a strong performance against Alfred University in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Wildcats secured victories in both games, winning 15-3 in the first game and 11-1 in the second. This improved their season record to 15-14, while Alfred University's Saxons fell to 1-22.
In the opening game, Penn College quickly took control by scoring five runs in the first inning and adding ten more in the third. The team collected 15 hits and benefited from 10 walks. Quinn Hanafin led with three RBIs, while Adam Aldenderfer scored three times. Matt Munoz and Aldenderfer each contributed two RBIs.
Pitchers Ryan Sawyer, Ethan Eckard, and Charlie Hornberg combined efforts to limit Alfred to five hits while striking out six batters. Eckard earned his second win of the season after pitching for two innings.
The Wildcats maintained their offensive momentum into the second game, scoring three runs each in the second, third, and fifth innings. They added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Jaydon Goebel tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single after Kevin Cute was hit by a pitch. Goebel later scored on a bases-loaded walk by Anthony Barbella, followed by David Wagner crossing home plate due to Ethan Stahl's fielder's choice.
Goebel had a standout performance with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Wagner also contributed significantly with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sam Staib achieved his second win of the season by allowing just one hit over two innings.
Next on their schedule is a United East road series at St. Mary's starting Friday at 3 p.m.
