Penn College faced a challenging day at the GU Tri-Meet on Saturday, falling in straight sets to both Gallaudet and McDaniel. The Wildcats' record in the United East Conference now stands at 1-6 after their opening match against Gallaudet, which boasts a 6-0 conference record and 22-4 overall. In nonconference play, Penn College's overall season record fell to 3-20 following their defeat by McDaniel, who hold a 10-6 overall record.
In the first match, Gallaudet secured set victories with scores of 25-6, 25-12, and 25-12, maintaining their unbeaten status in the United East competition. In the subsequent match against McDaniel, Penn College narrowed the scoring gap but ultimately lost with scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-17.
Key performances for Penn College included Lana Howard's .429 hitting percentage against Gallaudet. She contributed four kills, two aces, one and a half blocks, and five digs. Nevaeh Ward led with seven kills while Jo Hess provided twelve assists.
Against McDaniel, Laney Wolfe spearheaded the defense with twelve digs. Hailey DeBrody delivered an impressive .400 hitting percentage along with five kills, two aces, and two and a half blocks. Ward again led offensively with six kills.
Looking ahead, Penn College will conclude its nonconference schedule at Widener on Friday at 7 p.m.
