The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has announced a grant of nearly $2 million to the Church of the New Covenant in Mansfield, Tioga County. The funding aims to enhance internet access in the community, according to State Senator Gene Yaw.

"This funding will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our communities in Tioga County have a well-connected hub to serve as the backbone for economic growth, access to education and improved healthcare," stated Sen. Yaw. He expressed satisfaction with the investment aimed at providing equitable broadband service in the region.

The grant is part of a larger $45 million initiative supported by the federally backed Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program. This program seeks to improve high-speed broadband access for essential services like work, education, and health monitoring through community anchor institutions.

Mark Scafidi, Senior Pastor at the Church of the New Covenant, expressed gratitude for support from various stakeholders. "This unprecedented opportunity will be an enduring resource for our region in strengthening our economy and providing accessibility under the broadband initiative," he said.

The investment targets improvements in internet access at schools, libraries, recreation centers, and non-profit organizations. These facilities are expected to remain vital public hubs benefiting from this initiative.

To ensure transparency and track progress, PBDA mandates grantees submit quarterly and annual reports on project advancements and compliance with federal standards. A comprehensive final report is due within three months after project completion before releasing the final 10% of funds.

This effort aligns with Pennsylvania's broader mission to strengthen community infrastructure by creating accessible public spaces crucial for work, education, and health needs now and into the future.
