Penn College defeated Rosemont 3-1 in a United East Conference women's volleyball match on Tuesday evening. This victory marks the Wildcats' first win in the league for the program's NCAA D-III era, bringing their overall record to 3-13. The Ravens, on the other hand, fell to 0-1 in the league and 0-12 overall.
The Wildcats secured set scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, and 25-14. This win ended a seven-match losing streak and was their first conference victory since defeating Bryn Athyn in 2017.
With the score tied at 20 in the first set, Penn College scored four consecutive points, including two kills by Ava Harple and two aces by Lana Howard. They won the set on a Rosemont service error.
After Rosemont evened the match with a second-set win, Penn College edged out Rosemont in a closely contested third set, which Harple closed with another kill.
In the fourth set, Penn College pulled away with a five-point run that included three aces from Navaeh Ward, making it an 18-11 score. The Wildcats finished off the match with a kill by Harple and an ace by Jo Hess.
Harple led Penn College's offense with a .500 hitting percentage and a team-high of 12 kills. Ward contributed eight kills, seven aces, and nine digs. Howard added nine kills and four aces. Hess recorded 24 digs while Laney Wolfe had a team-best of 11 digs.
Penn College will next host Cairn at Bardo Gym on Saturday at 1 p.m.
