Penn College men's soccer secured a 2-1 win over Alfred State in their final nonconference game of the regular season on Tuesday night at UPMC Field. The Wildcats now hold a 5-3-1 record, while the Pioneers dropped to 6-3-0.
Logan Pietrzak clinched the victory for Penn College with a goal in the 84th minute. "He was all alone and streaking past the Alfred State defense until he was 1-on-1 with the Pioneers keeper and tucked the ball in the lower right corner for the go-ahead score," according to a match report. This decisive moment came in a game that featured only three combined shots on goal.
The Wildcats took an early lead when Austin Stapleton sent in a cross that Scott Goldfeder converted in front of the keeper in the 17th minute. The game remained even until Alfred State equalized with an unassisted goal by Ryan Masi in the 40th minute.
Despite being outshot 11-6 and trailing 6-2 in corner kicks, Penn College's Cole Catherman saved two of Alfred State's three shots on goal, securing his fourth win of the season.
Penn College will begin United East action on Saturday at UPMC Field against Rosemont at 1 p.m.
